How to test your home for mold
Treatment rarely sticks if you're still being exposed. That makes assessing your home one of the most important early steps.
Start with your history, not a swab
Past water damage, leaks, flooding, or a musty smell tell you more than most over-the-counter tests. Map where water has been, because that's where the problem usually is.
Better tests
Dust-based tests (like an ERMI) measure the mold burden that's actually settled in your living space, which correlates better with exposure than a quick air sample. When in doubt, a qualified inspector is worth the cost.
