Where the risk was actually established
Here is the crucial context: that link was established in settings of high-dose food contamination — regions where staple crops are heavily contaminated — not in typical water-damaged buildings, where airborne exposures are far lower. Extrapolating the food-contamination risk directly to your apartment overstates it.
What this means in practice
Routine cancer screening is not a standard part of a mold evaluation. Extra attention is reasonable in specific situations — a heavy, documented toxin burden; concurrent hepatitis B or C; impaired liver detoxification; or prolonged high-level exposure.
